Mr. Edward Butera received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from San Jose State University. After completing his education, Mr. Butera began his career with JBA Consulting Engineers. Since joining the firm, Mr. Butera serves as both Principal Mechanical Engineer and Principal-in-Charge of an extremely wide variety of complex projects in both Nevada and California. Mr. Butera's responsibilities for the firm include continual guidance and focus while providing practical and creative engineering solutions to world class clients. Combining over 30 years of experience and involvement with some of the most creative and technically exciting projects found anywhere in the world, Mr. Butera provides high level technical expertise to all members of the firm.
Mr. Butera is licensed in Nevada, California, Louisiana, Missouri, New Jersey, Florida and Michigan. Mr. Butera is a current member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and has held the position of President of the Southern Nevada Chapter, the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE). In 1979 Mr. Butera was selected as the Young Engineer of the Year by the local chapter of the National Society of Professional Engineers, representing the State of Nevada.
Mr. Butera has taught at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and has served as an instructor for the State of Nevada Public Works Board and the Cabrillo Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Mr. Butera was appointed by the Governor of the State of Nevada to preside on the Fire Retrofit Board.
Mr. Butera has been instrumental in introducing multi-stage evaporative cooling concepts to institutional and office/administrative facilities as well as developing the first commercial peak shaving power plant in Southern Nevada and subsequently assisted the utility in developing various dispatchable peak shaving rate structures currently being utilized by Citibank and various hotel/casino and medical facilities.
Mr. Butera's significant experience in Quality Assurance Testing applies to both active and passive smoke management systems, including systems development, design, matrix development for programming the fire and life safety systems in addition to developing the most cost effective interface between the mechanical and electrical control systems.
During his more than 30 years with JBA Consulting Engineers, Mr. Butera has been responsible for a wide variety of projects including major hotel/casino/resorts, high-rise condominiums, utilities, airports, power plants, hospital/medical facilities, educational/university projects, retail facilities, restaurants and lounges, and high-end residential projects.
